I used to make personal maps by hand as gifts for close friends or family members. Now that several companies offer this service online, my work is made easier. It is very interesting to see all the options now being offered. Your personal map can be historical, autobiographical, topic-related, chronological.  It can be large or small, international or within one country or city, it can be in any language.  My most recent personal map was for my brother, and I made it biographical.  It was a gift for his 40th birthday.  I included a few embarassing moments on his map just for fun.  Putting life events on a map make the story so much more interesting, don’t you think?
