3-D Topo Maps for Mountain Bikers
Now this has got to be the perfect combination of technology and sport. I remember the excitement when I saw my first 3-D map for bicyclists, about twenty years ago. Things have come a long way since then.The maps I saw were black and white and were designed to provide a visual representation of the elevation changes in the road, handy information for long-distance bicyclists using highways. Today’s mountain bikers have access to color topographical 3-D maps for use in planning their expeditions. Since they sometimes ride off-trail, these maps are essential to their safety. I wonder if hikers also use them?

I am glad I found your blog cuz I never knew there was such a thing as 3-D topo maps for hikers and bicyclers. I am both, and now I am going to go down to my local outdoor shop and hunt down a set for the National Forest I live near. thanks!
